Blog is not a buzzword for common Nepali but there are a lot of journalists, and journalism students, who have heard the word but hadn’t understood what it is all about. This morning, Bhojraj Bhat, a reporter with Nepal Weekly and also a first year student of Masters in Mass Communication and Journalism at Ratna Rajya Laxmi College invited me to talk about blog in a leisure period.
He had told me yesterday that around one-and-half dozen of his friends are quite enthusiastic to know about it. They turned out in a little less number but nevertheless it was an experience for me. Two of my friends at the second year were also there. I talked to them about 45 minutes and they were quite interested in the subject.
I told them what is blog, how it started and how it progressed focusing on how blog can be a form of journalism. I told them about United We Blog! and Dan Gilmour’s We The Media. I also told them about Media Bloggers Association, the case of Robert Cox of thenationaldebate.com vs New York Times and Rathergate and all. I also encouraged them to start blogging with either of the freely available blogging services.
It was informal talk but however those who attended the talk were quite interested and were taking down notes and asking me a few questions. It was a quite good experience for me as a blogger.
