More than a year ago, a few bloggers proposed an association by the name of Bloggers Association of Nepal (BLOGAN). The discussion went for some time and then went silent.
KP Dhungana of Hamroblog was one who had always talked about BLOGAN. A few of us invited each other for the talk on the issue at Martin Chautari on the day I talked about blogging in Nepal there. There were only a few – KP himself, me, Darshan of Zade Xpress and Rosha – then a non-blogger, and RP Dahal of NepalInfo who left but said he was with us.
We decided that for the time being the association should act as a social-network group so to gather a few of us and agreed that one of the bloggers would be nominated as the co-ordinator unless we are able to register and form a committee.
As agreed on that discussion, I am proposing the Bloggers Association of Nepal (partly modeled as Media Bloggers Association of USA to which I am a member). As we have agreed, all the bloggers identified as regular and Nepali by origin would be listed as our members unless they choose not to, every blogger is a member.
BLOGAN will be a nonpartisan organization dedicated to promoting, protecting and educating its members; supporting the development of ‘blogging’ as a distinct form of media; and helping to extend the power of the press, with all the rights and responsibilities that entails, to every citizen.
BLOGAN will also celebrate diversity of experience, purpose and opinion thus creating an environment where they can blog as freely as they used to as an individual. It will also believe in the freedom of expression. BLOGAN will accept anonymous bloggers as members provided that it could be confirmed s/he is a Nepali.
What you think? Please provide us with your ideas on BLOGAN, how should we move forward, and about anything else. Also please email or tell your blogging friend about it so that s/he can join the discussion and the association.

Ujjwal-ji,
This is definitely a great news, and thanks for proposing BLOGAN. BLOGAN could become that much needed forum for us Nepali blogger to share experiences, ideas, and generally, expand our blogging horizons.Just one point on the above statement regarding anonymous bloggers. You might want to change …it could be confirmed he is a Nepali. to …if could be confirmed he/she is a Nepali. Sorry for showing political correctness but I think we shouldn’t forget about brilliant female anonymous bloggers! Cheers!

This is indeed a great idea. But before deciding to form a commitee formally, we should try to invite as many people as possible to start blogging. Because more the number of bloggers the more effective it will be. Its good that we should form commitee formally but togther to that we should also try to create more awareness online so that nepalese living abroad could also be joined into this group.

Ujjawal ji,
Took me by surprise, but definately is a good idea. A motivation to be writing more frequently for somebody like me. It could also prove to be a platform to meet more like minded people and share more, which is always something to look forward to.
On the same note, could you please make it a bit clearer about how it is that we wanna go about with it? It is gonna be a virtual association? Just wondering. Please consider my ignorance on this matter as I never had this in mind. But it is indeed a good one.
And Mahesh ji, thank you for incorporating us as well.
In the mean time, if there is anything we can do besides informing our friends, do let us know.
happy blogging!! -
Thank you, Mahesh ji for pointing out a silly mistake.
Tajim, we are still at the phase of brainstorming. I posted this here so that many bloggers get the news and give input for the association.
PlainJane, I believe we can go both way. Let’s have a virtual community as well as physical one – with members participating in either of two or both.

Deelip,
I believe you used to blogged well in past. Now your site has nothing. If you are willing to continue blogging, then you can surely join.

Ujjwal Acharya Jee,
Thanks for mooting the great idea. In addition to what you have mentioned, my additions are as follows:(i) BLOGAN will be a nonpartisan organization dedicated to promoting, protecting and educating its members; supporting the development of ‘blogging’ as a distinct form of media; and helping to extend the power of the press, with all the rights and responsibilities that entails, to every citizen.
(ii) BLOGAN will also celebrate diversity of experience, purpose and opinion thus creating an environment where they can blog as freely as they used to as an individual. It will also believe in the freedom of expression. BLOGAN will accept anonymous bloggers as members provided that it could be confirmed s/he is a Nepali.
(iii) BLOGAN will express its solidarity against threat, intimidation, vindication, and personal and physical abuse against any blogger (both known and anonymous) on the basis of his/her expressions in the concerned blogs.
Thanks!
SBS
